Elizabeth Smith’s work was completed on October 22nd, 1850, most likely in England. With such a common name nothing could be found about the stitcher, but her work tells us she was a beginner needleworker who added many creatively placed stitches which adds to the charm. This simple and colorful sampler is neatly proportioned with rows of alphabets and numbers.  A lovely floral band is in the center with a unique basket and spray of flowers below the verse which reads:

When house and Land is
Gone and spent Learning
Is most excellent

This is for the pattern only From Cross Stitch Antiques
